Ms Cameron's current employer, KJA executive chair Kathy Jones, informed staff of her passing in an email on Monday morning.

"Deb was an amazingly talented woman," Ms Jones wrote. "When she joined KJA some seven years ago after leaving the ABC as their morning broadcaster, I remember saying that her arrival had instantly doubled the intellectual capital of the organisation. And this remained the case for whilst ever she was with us.

"I know, we will all miss her intelligence, inventiveness and innovative approach to her work, but we will also miss her warm spirit, love of life, and the guidance, wisdom and mentoring she provided to us all."

Fellow media personalities are paying tribute on social media, including the ABC's Leigh Sales, Richard Glover and Wendy Harmer, who said Deb was renowned for her warm and generous personality.

She became the first woman to hold the job of Tokyo correspondent for Fairfax, and also worked in New York and Jakarta.

She was a regular guest on ABC Radio before taking on the role of presenting Mornings on ABC 702 Sydney in 2008, which she continued for four more years.

After leaving the ABC, she joined the communication and engagement consultancy KJA, where she remained until her final days.

Ms Cameron is survived by two children, along with her husband.
