“If they don’t then I will just keep doing my best here at the Storm.”

After Queensland lost game one of last year’s series, Maroons coach Kevin Walters included Glasby in a move that shocked many in the northern states.

It’s understood then Maroons captain Cameron Smith made Glasby’s case to selectors, pushing the utility forward’s reliability on defence and the team went on to win both remaining games and claim the series.

Smith is now retired from Origin but made a public case for Glasby following the Broncos game.

“I think he would make a difference as there was certain points of the game where we struggled in the middle defensively,” Smith said.

“That’s where Damien Cook made his break early in the game, where James Tedesco scored his first try and then Tedesco made three or four line breaks in the middle and caused us a lot of issues on the night.

“I was out on the MCG surface the day before and it looked pretty greasy, slippery so it is always hard for those bigger men to defend the smaller guys in the middle but Tim has proven he is a great defender, he is a very reliable defender and he is pretty handy with the football as well.”

Glasby gives away some size to other props but has handled the best in the game during recent years helping the Storm to two grand final appearances and last year’s premiership.

“I pinch myself for the year I had last year in playing two origins, winning the series and then winning the premiership,” Glasby said.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my career and I’m very grateful. If they did want me to play a role then I’ll be more than happy to do it.”

When it comes to receiving an an endorsement from his captain, Glasby said there were few people in the game he respected more than Smith.

“Rumours were that he put in a good word for me last year so I might get him to give Kevie a call again,” Glasby said with a smile.

“I got a heap of respect for Smithy and one thing I do pinch myself about is that I get to run out with him every week.

“To have someone like him saying I can do a job for Queensland, that is pretty special.”

The Storm play Newcastle Knights in Newcastle on Sunday at 2pm and it will be Glasby’s first appearance in the city since signing a multi-year deal with the Knights for next season.

As a long time Storm player, Glasby admits it was a tough decision but he wouldn’t be doing any house hunting in his future home.

“I won’t be up there checking out digs that's for sure, I’ll be up there for work and that’s it,” Glasby said.
