Cronulla produced a nine-minute second-half blitz on Sunday to sink the Wests Tigers 24-16 and notch a seventh win in eight games at a wet and windy Southerm Cross Group Stadium.

The visitors led 10-2 at half-time and threatened a boilover before captain Paul Gallen inspired a comeback by bulldozing over for a try from close to the line, outmuscling three Tigers defenders.

Moments later he fed a ball to a flying Valentine Holmes, who pinned the ears back and ran 90 metres to touch down under the posts. Edrick Lee then galloped over in the corner.

Holmes finished with 197 run metres to go with the 222 he produced for Queensland in Wednesday's State Of Origin series opener.

Tuimoala Lolohea scored with 15 minutes left after a Chris Lawrence line break to give Ivan Cleary's men a way back into the game. But Jesse Ramien sealed the deal late on with a brilliant individual effort from 30m out, beating some tired Tigers tacklers.
