Richmond defender Alex Rance has escaped censure for an incident with Port Adelaide's Charlie Dixon which added to debate about staging.
Rance appeared to be bumped off the ball by Dixon as the two men contested a mark late in the second quarter on Friday night at the Adelaide Oval. As he fell to the ground, Rance attempted to spoil, with Dixon dropping the mark. It did not matter, for the umpire paid a free kick to the Power's Sam Gray.
Upon a replay being shown, Channel Seven commentator Bruce McAvaney then asked: "So here is what we are talking about with Alex Rance, just going forward you think or not?"
Match review officer Michael Christian found Rance had no case to answer on Saturday, providing a clean sheet in the Power's 14-point win.
"There were no charges laid and no others incidents that required detailed explanation," the AFL said in a statement.
