A WOMAN has been marched off a diverted Virgin Australian plane by the Australian Federal Police at Adelaide Airport for “yelling death threats” during a red-eye flight from Melbourne to Perth.
Flight VA 697 took off from Melbourne at 9.30pm and was headed out across the Great Australian Bight when it had an unexpected diversion to Adelaide Airport.
Virgin Australia said it made the decision to divert the plane due to a “disruptive passenger”. It landed in Adelaide just after midnight local time before taking off again at 1am.
An AFP spokesperson confirmed a woman was removed for “becoming disruptive and unruly during the flight” and was assisting officers.
Passengers on board the flight complained about the unexpected stopover after the woman began “yelling death threats” during the red-eye.
Adelaide Airport has a restriction on flights between 11pm and 6am however aircraft are allowed to breach curfew for “exceptional circumstances”.
The plane arrived in Perth on Friday morning.
