"I think Red is good talent," Beers said. "I'm certainly not looking to Red to replace any of our regular on-air talent. But I think there's a segment where Red could contribute to the station if he chooses to."

When pressed for more detail, Beers said he envisioned a regular radio package where Symons shared the microphone – whether it be several minutes or an hour.

"Something like Neil Mitchell's program, Sunday morning stuff," he said. "There's bits and pieces. He's probably at his career cycle where he probably doesn't want to do a whole lot."

ABC Melbourne's breakfast show has been shedding listeners in the wake of Symon's departure. The station ended the year on a 13 point audience share but saw themselves with a share of just 9.6 points in the June survey results.
