ABC, 7.30pm
Good-natured crime comedy rather in the style of Agatha Raisin. That is: idyllic country village, impossibly quaint cottages, odd couple private investigators, and a startlingly high rate of homicide.
Adding to the fun is the location – Stratford-upon-Avon – creating lavish opportunities for Tudor costumes and quoting of the classics, not to mention a receptionist who's a RADA-trained unemployed actor.
This first episode is something of an origin story as Luella Shakespeare hires PI Frank Hathaway to discover if her fiance is cheating on her. Of course he is – but not at all in the manner everyone expected. And by the closing credits – as the title suggests – Ms Shakespeare and Mr Hathaway have become crime-fighting partners.
