The opening episode to season three might end up being a bit of a Rorschach test for viewers. Is Kelly a force of nature, a perfectionist unstoppably pursuing a dream? Or is there something vaguely unhealthy about her determination to recreate – at any cost — a fleeting moment from her childhood?

Kelly, husband Joe, and their six kids are building a faux-Victorian villa on one of the North Island's many green hills, desperately trying to conjure a sense of history in the process. But are atmosphere and memory really something you can buy or build?
