Paris: A bottle of wine made in 1774 has reportedly sold for 103,700 euros ($A161,431) at auction in France.

The bottle of Vin Jaune (yellow wine) from the Jura region was made by winemaker Anatoile Vercel when France's King Louis XVI was on the throne.

Louis XVI was king in France when the tipple was bottled 250 years ago.

It was sold alongside two other bottles made in the same year, which fetched 76,250 euros  ($117,750) and 73,200 euros ($113,000).

"I never thought the bottles would sell for so much," Lons-le-Saunier auctioneer Brigitte Fenaux said. "The last record, in 2011, was for 57,000 euros."

The buyers were Canadians and somebody bidding on behalf of some Americans, she said.
