A WOMAN accused of dousing a police car in accelerant before setting it on fire allegedly tried to do the exact same thing to another car a few kilometres away.

Officers working at Coorparoo Police Station in Brisbane early Wednesday morning found one of their only patrol cars engulfed in a ball of flames.

Fire crews rushed to the scene after residents heard a loud bang and walked outside to find the car well alight.

Just 12 hours before the Coorparoo fire, police allege the 31-year-old woman behind the brazen attack had visited nearby Carina Police Station and doused another patrol car in accelerant. Luckily, that fire didn’t take.

Queensland policeman Greg Veivers told 9 News the suspect is well-known to them and would be “prosecuted to the letter of the law”.

“To say we’re not impressed is an understatement. It is a very serious offence,” he said.

“We take it very seriously.”

The ruined patrol car was one of the only vehicles that Coorparoo station had.

The 31-year-old was spotted on CCTV and police quickly realised where she was, taking her to Dutton Park Police Station.

The 31-year-old woman spent the night in the Police Watch House Brisbane in the city’s CBD and is due to face court today.

As well as the alleged arson attack, the woman will face an extra charge after she allegedly punched a police officer in the head during her arrest.

The 31-year-old has been charged with two counts of serious assault police and one count of vehicle arson, attempted vehicle arson and trespass.

Fire crews were called to Coorparoo Police Station at 6.40am to extinguish the car fire yesterday.

Traffic was diverted away from the station and part of the street was closed so police and fire crews could investigate.

Immediately after the fire was put out, Queensland Police said it was investigating the fire as suspicious.
