A year into a two-year tour supporting his band's third chart-topping album, Reynolds showed no sign of going through the motions. He was constantly on the move and his baritone held its own over the stadium-rock thud.
And while his songs tend toward the simplistic, Reynolds had the guts to tackle some serious issues in between them.
He spoke frankly of his battles with depression and anxiety, and urged those in the crowd suffering the same – "statistically, you are here tonight" – to get help.
He also addressed the school shooting in Texas with a stripped-back cover of Alphaville's Forever Young. As a sea of phone lights lit up, Reynolds' voice cracked for the only time all night.
There were other affecting moments. Believer got a spine-tingling, Spanish-guitar introduction before going back to banger business-as-usual, while an acoustic run though Next to Me and I Bet You showed musicianship that was sometimes buried on the big hits.
Which of those would finish the set was an open question for a band that specialises in rousing anthems.
The best candidate for the job, the bone-rattling Thunder, ended up arriving before Imagine Dragons' most-streamed song Radioactive, which sent us off on a bed of "woah-oh-ohs" and soaring guitar.
