Police said in a statement the women were employed as Mr Kleinlehrer's full-time carers.

Mr Kleinlehrer, a former builder and businessman, was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia in this year's Australia Day awards.

He was recognised for his contribution to the Emanuel School at Randwick and donations to Opera Australia, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and The Australian Ballet.

Several charges relating to the 36-year-old woman were mentioned in Waverley Local Court earlier this month.

Police said Mr Kleinlehrer was later handed court attendance notices for four counts of aggravated indecent assault allegedly committed against two women.

His barrister Nancy Mikhaiel said in court on Monday that several initial charges had been set down for hearing on September 18 but that date clashed with the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

The case had been listed to return to court this week to find another date, and in the meantime Mr Kleinlehrer had been charged with fresh offences.

She asked for a new hearing to be set down for September, but magistrate Greg Grogin questioned the delay as he said: "You've got a complainant sitting there wondering what's going on."

Ms Mikhail said it was necessary as lawyers had made inquiries about an assessment of Mr Kleinlehrer's fitness to plead and he had to have an MRI and brain scans.

"We're getting him assessed for fitness, your honour; it's a long process."

Ms Mikhaiel said any hearings would most likely include brief evidence from several character witnesses.

"The man is 96; he's a man of good character," she said.

The matters were set down for separate hearings, in front of different magistrates, on September 14 and 18.
