Plans to log six areas of Victoria’s Central Highlands were put on hold by the Federal Court in Melbourne  on Tuesday.

Anti-logging group Environmental Justice Australia went to court arguing that the areas due to be logged were home to the greater glider, a threatened marsupial.

The temporary injunction granted by the court on Tuesday prevents VicForests from logging in five "coupes" and along one road, including a controversial area near Noojee township.

The Age reported on Saturday that residents of the hill town fear for their way of life, as logging contractors prepared to move in this week to clearfell 35 hectares of native forest on the edge of town.

VicForests, the state-owned logging agency had been due to begin cutting down trees around Noojee as early as Thursday.

But the injunction has only put the logging activity on-hold until next Wednesday, when a further hearing of the injunction application will proceed.
