ONE of the leading contenders to be taken with Pick 1 in the loaded 2018 draft has suffered a suspected knee injury.

Max King, a 200 centimetre key forward, went down in pain on Saturday while playing for his school side Haileybury College.

King was pushed into the behind post in the incident. He was then stretchered off the ground as club recruiters watched on.

King’s TAC Cup side, the Sandringham Dragons, were facing the Murray Bushrangers in the northern part of the state when news of his injury filtered through.

The Dragons will know more about the extent of King’s injury later on Saturday afternoon and will also await scans, but early reports aren’t promising.

King dominated earlier this month in a TAC Cup game for the Dragons, kicking 8.5 with 19 disposals and nine marks (eight inside 50, six contested).

His twin brother Ben was also brilliant in that game as an intercept defender. Many draft experts are tipping both Kings to go in the top ten of the draft.

Other contenders for the No.1 pick in the upcoming national draft include South Australian pair Jack Lukosius and Izak Rankine and Victorian Sam Walsh. Father-son prospects Rhylee West and Nick Blakey have also drawn attention.
