Antony and Cleopatra, DVD, 1974: Janet Suzman is one of the great Cleopatras, sparkling, sumptuous and sombre. Richard Johnson's Antony is rugged and authoritative.

The Spread of the Eagle, DVD, 1963: Keith Michell is a superb Antony, bluff, grand and laconic to Mary Morris' wily Cleopatra.

Antony and Cleopatra, audio (Argo), 1960: Irene Worth, the American actor, was hailed as a Cleopatra because she cut through all English pussyfooting.

Antony and Cleopatra, audio (Caedmon), 1963: The best rendition in any medium. Pamela Brown is a grand, rich-voiced Cleopatra. Anthony Quayle, a flawless Antony.

Antony and Cleopatra, audio (abridged, Living Shakespeare), 1962: Vivien Leigh and Peter Finch are brilliantly counterpointed. The richness of the play in an hour-long mouthful.

Antony and Cleopatra, audio (BBC), 2013: Kenneth Branagh, a superb Shakespearean, has a very contemporary manner. Alex Kingston is not a bad, though not a grand, Cleopatra.
