State MPs would be forced to appear before a fresh investigation into Labor’s rorting of almost $400,000 in taxpayer funds, under an Opposition plan to inflict maximum political pain on the government.

The Coalition will move next week to establish an upper house parliamentary inquiry with the power to subpoena some MPs, other individuals and documents.

Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said the Ombudsman had been “stonewalled” by many government MPs in her investigation into Labor’s rorting, so an upper house select committee inquiry was needed.

“They can hide from the Ombudsman but they can’t run from the Parliament,” Mr Guy said.

The Ombudsman’s report, tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, found that 21 serving and former Labor MPs had authorised payments for “field officers” employed by the Parliament who helped deliver Labor’s 2014 election victory.
