“We're talking about the team's consistency being not so great, well, Nelson's about 180 degrees from that at the moment. He is consistent,” Bellamy said on Wednesday.

“And this is the most consistent he has been. He's done a lot of changes to his routine, his preparation, a bit of his life off the field, and he's seeing the results of that on the field.

He's probably been our most consistent player. If someone said that to me 12 months ago, I would have been thinking you've got rocks in your head.

Craig Bellamy on Nelson Asofa-Solomona

“He's probably been our most consistent player. If someone said that to me 12 months ago, I would have been thinking you've got rocks in your head.

“He just needs to tidy up a couple of things ... the longer he is out there, the better we seem to be going.”

Asofa-Solomona will be facing off with McLean when the Storm take on North Queensland Cowboys at AAMI Park on Thursday night. McLean departed for Townsville after last year’s premiership win.

“Jordan has been here for such a long time and played such a massive role, such a great player and all the best to him,” Asofa-Solomona said on the eve of the season.

“I’m not trying to fill anyone’s boots. I just want to to be the best player I can be.”

Asofa-Solomona has followed the lead of mentors like Jesse Bromwich in maintaining the same performance week after week and says mspending five years at the Storm has helped him.

“The main thing for myself is to be consistent and it’s something Craig always harps on for everyone and especially for myself,” he said.

“The more games you play, the more mature you become on the field and you just want to do your job.

“I just think about doing my job for the boys and not letting anyone down. You train with these guys, do the little things well and you don’t want to let them down.”

Bellamy said the test of whether the Storm have regained their best form will come on field against the highly-touted Cowboys, who are also stinging from their loss to rivals the Brisbane Broncos last round.

The Storm are searching for someone to fill the hole left on the bench by Asofa-Solomona’s promotion, with powerful props Tim Glasby and Sam Kasiano shaping as the best candidates.

“Tim Glasby is an Origin player and he did that for Origin,” Bellamy said.

“He's doing that role really well at the moment and hopefully over the next couple weeks we can get a few more minutes into Sam as well.”

The Storm host the Cowboys at AAMI Park on Thursday at 8pm.
