Cape Town: Kagiso Rabada has emerged from a six-hour appeal hearing here on Monday and must now wait for the ICC's judicial commissioner to rule on whether or not to lift his suspension for the rest of the Test series against Australia.

The world's No.1 bowler is banned for the third and fourth Tests after being reported twice during the second match of the series in Port Elizabeth, but he has appealed the level-two charge he received for making deliberate and inappropriate contact with Steve Smith after dismissing the Australian captain.

The outcome stands to have huge ramifications for the contest between the two teams, which resumes at Newlands on Thursday with the series level at 1-1.

The South African fast bowler was accompanied by team manager Mohammed Moosajee and three lawyers, including high-profile counsel Dali Mpofu SC.

The hearing was overseen by the appointed judicial commissioner, Michael Heron QC, by video conference from his homeland, New Zealand.
