THERE are fears people may be trapped inside a workshop which is burning in Osborne Park this afternoon.

A man has received burns in the fire, which started at the Precision Automatic Transmissions workshop on Ruse Street, at the intersection of Hutton Street, at 12.22pm.

He has been taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital by St John Ambulance with burns. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

St John Ambulance said rescue paramedics were heading to the scene “as there may be others still inside the building”.

A witness said they heard an explosion while fleeing the fire scene.

The fire is creating a huge smoke plume over Osborne Park. Eight fire trucks are on the scene.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has urged people in the area to stay inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed.
