Cardinal George Pell is accused of sexually assaulting a complainant during a screening of the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Ballarat in 1978.

However, a cinema worker says he has no recollection of ever seeing the high-ranking Catholic at the movie theatre.

Cardinal Pell, 76, appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday at the beginning of the third week of a committal hearing as he fights charges of multiple historical sexual offence charges involving multiple complainants.

Cardinal Pell is facing a hearing to determine whether he stands trial.

Details of the charges are yet to be revealed. He has repeatedly denied the allegations.
