Two brothers in Perth’s northern suburbs face an anxious wait - and tests for Hepatitis B,C and HIV - after being pricked by used needles near their home.

The boys, aged six and seven, had been playing in a vacant block in Ridgewood on Friday evening when they discovered the syringes.

It was only by chance that neighbour Jodi Timms heard them talking about the incident and was able to let their parents know.

“I went over there and said, you know, ‘what are you guys talking about?’” she explained to 7 News Perth.

“They got a bit sheepish and one of the boys pulled out a syringe from his pocket.”

She immediately told their parents, who were grateful for being alerted and rushed the boys to Joondalup Health Campus.

“It's not something I really want something my kids to go through...or anyone’s children,” father Daniel Lekis said.

“If the kids do catch something, their lives will change.”

The children need to be tested for Hepatitis B,C and HIV. But they can't be tested for six weeks and will then need to be tested again six weeks after that.

Doctors say the puncture wounds are shallow and the boys should be OK but Mr Lekis says they won’t be playing in that area again.
