WHILE a cyclone is causing issues for parts of Australia, extreme heat looks set to put Sydney to the test.

Temperatures are expected to hit a scorching 38 degrees on Sunday.

NSW Ambulance services is bracing for a busy few days with Malcolm Turnbull hosting the ASEAN Summit, hundreds of fans heading to the Ed Sheeran concert and thousands of people celebrating St Patrick’s Day.

NSW Rural Fire Service is expected to announce a total fire ban.

People are warned to exercise caution if venturing outside on what will be the hottest Autumn day in 14 years.

Wind gusts are also expected to last throughout the day, which will typically increase the risk of bushfire with the already dry conditions.

NSW Rugby League also issued a warning with some NSWRL matches being affected by the extreme weather over the next two days.

“Sydney averages a maximum of 25 degrees in March,” Sky News meteorologist Tom Saunders told news.com.au last week. So with Sunday’s temperature hitting 38 degrees, that’s almost 15 degrees above average, something which hasn’t been seen in years.

Tropical Cyclone Marcus has also been upgraded to a Category 2 with wind gusts expected to exceed 130km/hr, as the storm wreaks havoc on Darwin. Trees are quite literally rolling down the roads.
