Emergency services were called to a residence on Garnet St at Clayfield about 5.30pm Friday.

Senior Sergeant district duty officer Catherine Jones said the incident was terrible.

“At about 5:30pm ... a father was reversing a family vehicle out of the driveway of the unit complex and unfortunately a young 2-year-old female has been struck and has since passed away,” she said.

“She was treated here at the scene by Queensland Ambulance before she was then transported to the Lady Cilento Hospital where she has passed away.”

Sergeant Jones said the girl’s mother and another young girl attended hospital.

“As you can imagine they are absolutely distraught.”

“The family have been moving into the address here.”

“It was terrible.”

Neighbours told The Courier-Mail of the nightmarish scene, which unfolded on a quiet cul-de-sac.

A woman living in the unit complex next to the family is believed to have given the little girl CPR until emergency services arrived.

One neighbour said the mother was hysterical and the little girl’s father was initially rocking her after the tragedy unfolded.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
