Former Fremantle Docker Shane Yarran has been acquitted of an unlawful wounding charge, with prosecutors admitting they didn’t have enough evidence to prove it.
The 28-year-old was due to face trial today, accused of attacking a man outside a tavern in Camillo in July, 2015.
But, instead, police prosecutors said there wasn’t a reasonable prospect of him being convicted.
Outside court, Yarran’s lawyer Luka Margaretic said he knew the charge wouldn’t be successful.
“This man lost a football career which has been a very sad situation.”
WA Police have been ordered to pay the former footballer’s court costs, totalling $5,500.
It’s his second acquittal in just over 6 months; in August, he was cleared of assaulting his partner.
Yarran played for Subiaco before being recruited by Fremantle in 2015.
Today, the club said he was on track to play WAFL this year but hasn’t been to training since January.
