

SHOCKING footage has emerged of the alleged hit and run of an 88-year-old man — who was crossing the road using a walking frame — in Sydney’s southwest on Friday night.
Security vision shows the moment a car hurtled through a roundabout and struck the elderly pedestrian at Northam Ave in Bankstown at 7.30pm on Friday.
The 24-year-old driver of the Toyota hatchback is then seen allegedly driving away after failing to offer assistance to the man.
The elderly man was later rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.
The man attended Bankstown Police Station about 1pm on Saturday and was arrested.
He was later charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, drive furiously in motor vehicle cause bodily harm, and negligent driving.
Police also suspended his licence. He was given conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on April 4.
Bankstown Police said an investigation into the incident is continuing.
“It’s upsetting to think someone could drive off like that and not render any aid or assistance,” Inspector David Laird said.
The 88-year-old man’s condition was downgraded to stable.
