Port Elizabeth: David Warner could be suspended from the second Test at St George's Park after he and Quinton de Kock were charged by the ICC over their heated stairwell confrontation at Kingsmead.

Warner was hit with a level-two charge of bringing the game into disrepute, and de Kock a level one, under the players' code of conduct.

Their teams have until Wednesday to respond but, while de Kock can only receive a maximum of two demerit points, Warner's level-two charge means he stands to be hit with three or four points. If it was four he would be banned from the second Test starting on Friday.

ICC match referee Jeff Crowe met with Australian and South African team management including Australian coach Darren Lehmann late on Tuesday at the hotel where both sides are staying.
