An alleged case sexual harassment and another of “inappropriate conduct” have surfaced in South Australia at the offices of two of Australia’s biggest professional services firms.

One partner has left KPMG and two people – a partner and female staff member – are under suspension and active investigation at EY.

The first incident, reported in The Australian Financial Review, involved a partner and female staff member at EY’s Adelaide office.

EY confirmed to Business Insider it currently investigating allegations of “inappropriate conduct” involving a partner and staff member.

“As soon as the allegations became known, both parties were suspended from the office, with a presumption of innocence, whilst an investigation of claims and counter claims is being undertaken,” EY said in a statement.

“It is likely that the investigation will identify breaches of EY’s Code of Conduct and policies by both people.

“These breaches will be taken seriously and commensurate ramifications will be determined, actioned and remain confidential.

“At EY we take our workplace ethics seriously and that is why we have strict processes to protect the care and safety of all our employees and partners.”

KPMG Australia confirmed that an incident involving a breach of Code of Conduct and policies was reported late last year in the South Australian office.

“KPMG fully investigated and promptly addressed the matter,” says KPMG CEO Gary Wingrove.

“The individual responsible no longer works for the firm.

“KPMG is committed to providing a safe workplace for our people. We do not tolerate sexual harassment.

“We encourage our people to report any inappropriate conduct and require Partners and employees to comply with our Code of Conduct and our policies.”
