Police investigating the discovery of a body on Trigg Beach in Perth's northern suburbs have said they are not treating it as suspicious.

The body was found in sand dunes opposite Clarko's Reserve about 6:00am today by a member of the public, who then notified police.

Local residents first on the scene have told the ABC it was the body of a woman.

Police forensic officers, armed with shovels and brown paper evidence bags, collected evidence throughout the morning.

A section of the beach remains closed to the public while police continue their investigations.

Major Crime Squad detectives earlier interviewed dozens of people in the car park before allowing them to leave.

A notice at the beach states the area is under 24-hour recorded surveillance.
