In an interview with 9 News, cop turned whistleblower Rick Flori said he reported seeing two of his fellow officers repeatedly having sex in a patrol car, while they were on shift, to a senior officer.

When he did, he claims he was disciplined for reporting the pair and the senior officer was given the opportunity to preside over the complaint and “issue whatever punishment he wanted”.

Mr Flori eventually took the disciplinary action to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal where he was given a public payout and police withdrew the notice.

And now, the former Gold Coast sergeant wants to know why the senior officer punished him for reporting the sex.

“He committed an indictable offence in my eyes and the evidence shows that,” Mr Flori said.

He wants the senior officer investigated and potentially charged under a law that protects whistleblowers from being punished for reporting problems.

If convicted under this law, an offender can be jailed for a maximum of two years.

Earlier this week, Mr Flori was cleared of misconduct by a jury for releasing CCTV of police brutally bashing a man in the basement of Surfers Paradise station.

In a statement to news.com.au, QPS said it would not be commenting on the Rick Flori case any further because of an ongoing civil case.

“Anyone who has concerns about Queensland Police Service (QPS) conduct can make a complaint through the appropriate channels,” the statement said.

“Mr Flori is currently involved in civil proceedings with the QPS.

“The QPS is not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”
