Police were called to a Springfield property following reports of an altercation between the 16-year-old and his 43-year-old father about 2pm Wednesday.

It will be alleged the teen attempted to strike his father with a knife. He was charged by detectives yesterday afternoon with intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

The responding officers shot the boy in the torso after he allegedly approached them with a knife.

He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The charges come after the boy’s father was charged last week with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm over the alleged incident on Wednesday.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, broke down at the Ipswich Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was granted bail.

In granting bail, magistrate Regina Sturgess ruled he couldn’t approach his son, nor could he return to their Springfield home.

“Do you understand these conditions?” the magistrate asked on Friday.

“Yes, Your Honour. As long as my boy’s alive and breathing that’s all that matters to me,” he replied.

The father’s case will be heard again on March 9.

The Ethical Standards Command is continuing its investigation into the incident.
