The man who laughed outside court after he avoided jail time after a one-punch attack on the Gold Coast last year will be deported.

Australian Border Force confirmed Caleb Maraku, 19, was detained by officers on Friday morning ahead of his removal from Australia.

Maraku pleaded guilty to a Surfers Paradise one-punch attack in November, but avoided prison.

He laughed as he left Southport Magistrates Court that day, with his behaviour captured by waiting TV news crews.

Social media posts show he had been challenged to and accepted a charity boxing fight, which media outlets report was scheduled for next month.

The victim of Maraku's vicious punch, 19-year-old Taliesin Tardrew-O'Meara, was knocked unconscious and left "bleeding from his ears" after what police described as a "coward punch" in the middle of the schoolies precinct at the Gold Coast.
