EIGHT people, including seven children, have been injured after being struck by a ute in a hit-run at Pakenham this afternoon.

Paramedics are on the scene at the intersection of Cardinia Road and Princes Highway after the incident occurred just after 3.30pm.

It’s believed an adult and seven children suffered cuts, grazes and bruising.

The intersection is close to the Arena Shopping Centre, St Francis Xavier College and St Clare’s Primary School.

“Police and emergency services are on scene after a number of pedestrians were struck by a car in Pakenham this afternoon,” Victoria Police spokesman Belinda Batty said.

“It believed a ute struck eight pedestrians at a crossing at the intersection of Cardinia Rd and the Princess Freeway about 3.35pm.

“Seven children and one adult are currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

“Police are currently searching for the driver who left the scene on foot,” she said.

VicRoads warned traffic in all directions was affected and recommended motorists avoid the area. The Princes Freeway could be used as an alternative.
