Parts of New South Wales and the ACT are bracing for a hot hump-day, with total fire bans in place for much of the state.
“Hot and dry weather conditions with fresh west northwesterly winds ahead of the front is forecast to bring severe fire danger in eastern NSW on Wednesday,” the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Total fire bans are in place for the Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney, Illawarra/Shoalhaven, ACT, Southern Ranges, Central Ranges, New England, Northern Slopes, North West and Southern Slopes.
The Rural Fire Service told 9NEWS most of the fire which are currently active are in remote areas, and are not causing major concerns.
However, old fires which have been burning for weeks can flare up and the RFS will be paying close attention to these today.
Sydney was bracing for a top of 40 degrees, but that’s been revised to a maximum of 33.
Canberra is forecast to reach 32 degrees, 34 for Gosford, 33 for Goulburn and 31 for Wollongong.
