The ABC has finally confirmed a controversial Sydney barrister will appear on Q&A to discuss the #MeToo movement.

Q&A sparked fierce debate last month after it was revealed Charles Waterstreet had been approached to speak on a panel about people's experiences with sexual assault. The 67-year-old was last year accused of harassing a 21-year-old law student, but has denied any wrongdoing

Q&A unveiled the full lineup for it's upcoming #MeToo special on Monday. Waterstreet will appear alongside columnist Janet Albrechsten, Macquarie University academic Catherine Lumby, Melbourne lawyer Josh Bornstein and The Preatures frontwoman Isabella Manfredi.

Actor Rachel Griffiths will no longer appear on the panel. The Six Feet Under star last year defended Geoffrey Rush and said journalists should be more concerned about their own workplaces

Waterstreet declined to comment on his upcoming Q&A appearance. However, he previously told Fairfax Media he was looking forward to a "lively debate".

"I note reference to my name linked with Harvey Weinstein in some minor media [outlets]," he said. "The only thing I have in common with Harvey Weinstein is that we've made films.

"Why should I be assumed to be a perpetrator? I look forward to speaking on my own behalf."

Anti-sexual assault advocate Nina Furnell said she was disappointed Q&A thought it was appropriate to invite Waterstreet onto the program in the first place.

"You don't want to have a panel where everyone is in furious agreement," she said. "But there's ways to integrate a perspective without platforming someone with some pretty serious allegations against them. They could have invited Mark Latham or Miranda Devine.

"I think it's about generating ratings. Little thought has been put into how this will affect the young women who've been courageous in coming forward and telling their stories."

Q&A's #MeToo special will air on ABC TV on Thursday, February 15 at 9pm.
