Four emergency service crews were called a fire which is understood to have caused water and smoke damage at a popular Northbridge restaurant on Thursday morning.

The fire started just after 10.30am in the kitchen of the Lucky Chan's Laundry + Noodlebar and was extinguished just after 11am.

Witnesses told WAtoday when they initially saw smoke rising from a chimney at the back of the property, they assumed it was a part of the restaurant's daily operations.

However as the smoke got worse, firefighters were called to the scene on the corner of William Street and Newcastle Street.

While the blaze was not visible from the street, there was significant smoke in the area.

Parts of the road were closed as firefighters carried burnt food trays from the restaurant.

William Street was closed near Newcastle Street, with police and City of Perth officials managing traffic in the area.

The damage bill is not yet known, and the restaurant put out a statement on social media for their customers:

"Hey Chan Fans, as you may have heard we had a small fire in the kitchen this morning," they wrote.

"All of Chans ninjas are accounted for and safe. The damage is minimal and the only casualties have been a few chicken baos!

"Thanks for all your well wishes and messages. We will work hard to be open for you all again very soon!"
