A DAYTON pensioner says he will now be able to stop renting and buy a house to live out his retirement after winning more than $500,000 in Division 1 Lotto on Saturday.

The man aged in his 70s won the Division 1 prize after buying a ticket from Kenwick Village News.

He said he was determined to win, randomly selecting a range of numbers to play each week.

“I told the owner one day, ‘you’ve had this store for over 20 years and I’m going to be your first big winner’,” he said.

He said the numbers just jumped out at him.

“They weren’t anything special – not birthday’s or anything like that – just numbers that jumped out at me,” he said.

“It only took me about six tickets before I cracked it.”

He said the win meant he could buy a house and help out family.

“I’ve got enough to buy a retirement home and help a few close family members that need some financial assistance,” he said.
