Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce is expecting a baby with a younger former staff member, according to media reports.
Mr Joyce, who confirmed in December he had split from his wife of 24 years, Natalie Joyce, is expecting a child with former media advisor Vikki Campion, 33, The Daily Telegraph reports.
The newspaper says Mr Joyce refused to comment when contacted about his personal situation. However, he did say Ms Campion was no longer working for the government.
"Due to ministerial changes at the reshuffle last year, the staff member’s contract ended," he said in a statement to the newspaper.
"(She) is subject to the same provisions as all other staff."
The Daily Telegraph published photographs of a pregnant Ms Campion, a former journalist and deputy chief of staff of the newspaper who left Mr Joyce's office in April last year. She has not commented on the pregnancy.
She has reportedly moved in with Mr Joyce and is due to give birth around April.
Soon after winning re-election as the member for New England last year, Mr Joyce confirmed his separation from his wife during debate on the Same Sex Marriage Bill in the House of Representatives.
The newly re-elected member for New England, who married Natalie in 1993, was debating an amendment regarding religious freedoms.
"I don't come to this debate pretending to any form of a saint but I do believe the current definition of marriage has stood the test of time whether it's (inaudible) fail, I acknowledge that obviously I acknowledge that I'm currently separated so that's on the record," he said at the time.
Mr Joyce maintained during the SSM campaign that he personally believed in the view that marriage should be between a man and a woman.
But he said he understood the will of the people of Australia to change the legislation.
