Mourners have started laying floral tributes by the roadside where the teenager was hit by the car while walking to the bus stop.

The driver, a man believed to be in his 40s, had his two daughters in the car at the time of the incident.

It is believed he stopped his car and went to get help from a neighbour to render first aid but the girl died at the scene.

The driver was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol testing and is assisting police with inquiries.
