A boy dubbed "selfie kid" stole the limelight during the Super Bowl's half-time show as he posed for a photo with pop singer Justin Timberlake.
During the performance, Timberlake paid tribute to music legend Prince in a 12-minute set before a television audience estimated at over 100 million people.
Towards the end of his performance, Timberlake thrust himself into the crowd and next to the unsuspecting kid, named by US media as 13-year-old Ryan McKenna.
The boy started to dance alongside Timberlake, but as the performance neared its end he stopped to take his phone out and lined Timberlake up for a selfie in the midst of a cheering crowd.
"Super Bowl selfies," Timberlake then said into the microphone.
"We all knew the selfie kid would be a meme the moment we saw him," one Super Bowl fan wrote on Twitter.
Some even claimed selfie kid resembled a young Justin Timberlake.
"I just went for it," McKenna told ESPN.
The show was Timberlake's first performance at the Super Bowl since a 2004 incident which saw him rip off part of Janet Jackson's garment, briefly baring her breast.
