Ms Tran, 30, faced a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court where new details of the alleged attack were read out by police.

The 30-year-old has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury when she allegedly attacked Le Le in a suburban street in St Albans, west of Melbourne, on Thursday night.

Ms Le was walking her two dogs shortly before she was found lying in a driveway in a pool of blood. She remains in the Royal Melbourne Hospital with “significant” brain injuries.

Detective Sen-Constable Scott Riley told the court on Monday Ms Le was not expected to survive. The accused responded by laughing and smiling. She later interjected and asked the judge to grant her bail “to prove my innocence”.

The court heard Tran suffers from schizophrenia and had been living in “a halfway house” in St Albans for two weeks prior to Thursday night.

In response to the charges, Tran denied she did anything wrong.

“I heard that I was blamed for hitting someone,” she told the court. “I deny that.”

When Ms Tran was handed court papers detailing her prior convictions, she told the judge: “It’s not relevant, mate.”

She later declared, “I haven’t hurt anyone”.

“Hurt who?” she asked.

Sen-Constable Riley alleges a number of witnesses saw Tran near the scene of the alleged attack.

“On Thursday, Ms Le was found seriously assaulted. Prior to that a number of persons nearby heard three or four loud screams,” he said.

“Witnesses saw across from (the driveway where Ms Le was found) the accused acting in a bizarre manner. Witnesses tried to engage with the accused but were unsuccessful.”

CCTV footage allegedly shows Ms Le and Tran at the scene shortly after 7pm.

Police revealed on Monday that the accused has a number of priors for drug offences and crimes of violence.

She was denied bail and the matter will return to court on May 28.
