Police are investigating after a woman was found with severe burns in a Melbourne home.
Emergency services found the injured 22-year-old woman when they were called to the Boronia Avenue, Cranbourne, property just after 6.30pm yesterday.
It is believed the woman's father-in-law and brother-in-law were first to find her in the property's backyard and rushed her indoors to a shower in an attempt to ease her burns.
She was later taken to hospital in a serious condition and had since has skin grafts applied to her head, back and shoulders.
9NEWS understands four children witnessed the event.
The woman's husband also remains in police custody but no charges have been laid.
Daniel McCreedy, who lives in the same street as the woman, told Today he and his partner rushed to the woman's aid after they heard screams and saw that she was "very, very burnt".
"We heard a loud scream last night so we came rushing out to see what was wrong. We witnessed a man running from the scene quite distressed," he said.
"As we were trying to figure out what was going on, the man was starting to call 000, so I told him my partner is a nurse and we went inside and found the lady quite burnt.
"Then we found a jerry can in the backyard on fire, which we put out, and then we proceeded to try and look after them."
Mr McCreedy also said the woman was "very calm" despite her the damages to her skin and her clothes being burnt off.
"We were just trying to get her back into the shower and get cold water on her to try and obviously ease the burns," he said.
A 29-year-old man is now assisting detectives with their inquiries. Police investigations are ongoing.
