HENRY Dwyer has plenty of reasons to be confident about Snitty Kitty’s return to racing in the 1000m Adams Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
At her last start, Snitty Kitty zoomed over Caulfield’s 1000m on October 21, winning the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint in 56.28sec, only 0.23sec outside Lucky Secret’s track record.

As soon as the mare won, Dwyer declared she would be set for the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate on February 24.
“She showed amazing improvement last time in,” Dwyer said. “That’s what she’s done every preparation and that’s the case again.”
He said what Snitty Kitty did last time in — winning both of her starts — had taken him by surprise. Dwyer said Snitty Kitty’s fitness was similar to before her first-up run last time in.
On that occasion she carried 60kg and easily won a restricted mares’ race at Caulfield.
Snitty Kitty is $2 favourite for the Listed Adams Stakes and Dwyer said those odds were an accurate reflection of her chances.
“It looks a lovely race. It’s 1000m on her pet track,” he said. “She’s got blistering gate speed and from barrier six there’s no risk of her missing the start.”
Dwyer is excited about Snitty Kitty’s prospects when she steps up to the Oakleigh Plate challenge at Caulfield on February 24.
“There’s a dearth of quality older sprinters and she’s going to go into it lower in the weights,” he said. “She’ll be a terrific show.”
Although Snitty Kitty is still in next month’s 1200m Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, Dwyer said they wouldn’t make a decision until after the Oakleigh Plate.
“I will try her over 1200m again at some stage, but for the moment I’ll stick to 1000m to 1100m,” he said. “Also I think she goes better the Melbourne way of going, so I’m a little restricted as to where we can go.”
Dwyer is contemplating running one of his recruits, filly Crown Witness, in the Oakleigh Plate first-up. Trained by Stuart Webb, Crown Witness won her first three starts before a fourth in the Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield.
Dwyer has first-starter Melveen in Saturday’s $250,000 Inglis Premier (1200m).
“She’s a nice filly coming through,” he said. “The nominations for this came up, so I thought why not have a go in our backyard.”
