The Vikings Group kickstarted fundraising for OzHarvest Canberra with a yoga under the stars event at its Town Centre club in Tuggeranong.
Forty Canberrans took part in the event on the lawn bowling greens, just before 8pm on Wednesday.
Each $20 ticket sold helped OzHarvest deliver 40 meals to those in need in the local Canberra community.
The Vikings Group has selected OzHarvest Canberra as its charity of the year for 2018. OzHarvest collects quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivers it directly to charities.
Last year, the Vikings Group Charity of the Year program raised $80,000 for Red Nose. A similar amount is expected to be raised for OzHarvest.
OzHarvest Canberra CEO Dave Burnet said the yoga initiative was a great way to connect OzHarvest to the community.
"[Events like these] demonstrate that you don't have to donate a lump of money to help. Even a small one-off donation equivalent to a weekly fitness class, or even a daily coffee makes a huge difference to charities like us.," he said.
"We are so thankful to Vikings Group for its support."
Vikings Group CEO Anthony Hill said the event not only highlighted the importance of OzHarvest, but encouraged healthy habits in the community. "
"Sometimes we get caught up in our day-to-day lifestyle and forget how important it is to de-stress and find a way to unwind," Mr Hill said.
"As we all start to come back from holidays we wanted to begin the year well by supporting OzHarvest and giving our community the opportunity to unwind."
The good news is there are plans to hold another yoga event later in the year.
