An overnight caller to radio station 3AW sums up our pain. I'm going to call him Boiling in Glen Iris:
"I'm boiling here in Glen Iris. It's unbearable. It's a disaster here. It's that bloody hot, you've got no idea. You cannot sleep."
Boiling, we feel your pain.
It'll be a slow and cranky morning today. Melburnians officially did not get much sleep, with the temperature hovering above 30 degrees All. Night. Long.
In fact, we only neared the overnight low of 28.4 at 5.30am. Richard Carlyon from the Bureau of Meteorology said at 5.45am the temperature was still dropping, but only slightly.
It stayed above 30 degrees until 4am. The last time we tried to sleep through such a scorcher was in January 2010, when it stayed at 30.6 overnight.
Currently 28.5 degrees in the city, relative humidity 50 per cent.
Coffee. We need coffee.
