The most in-demand music festival of the year has announced its 2018 lineup.

After cancelling her 2017 appearance, Beyoncé is back on the list for 2019, headlining on the Saturday dates while The Weeknd and Eminem will headline the Friday and Sunday shows respectively.

2017: The year in entertainment

It may not have felt like it but there was much more to this year than Harvey Weinstein and #MeToo.

The two-weekend event will be held April 13-15 and April 20-22  at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

Other big names include Kygo, Vince Staples, HAIM, Tyler the Creator, Post Malone and Odezsa.

Vance Joy and Tash Sultana will wave the Aussie flag at the festival having been granted highly coveted spots on the lineup.

It will be Joy's second appearance at the famed festival after he made his debut there in 2015.

Coachella prides itself on going big. In 2017, it grossed more than $114 million and saw more than 125,000 people fill the 40-acre lot.

Last year's festival was headlined by Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga, who performed in the slot originally held for Beyoncé. Beyoncé's 2017 set was postponed after announcing in February that she was pregnant with twins.

This is Coachella's 19th year running since the first festival in 1999 which featured Beck, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Morrissey, and others.

Tickets go on sale on January 5, starting at $US504 for a general admission three-day ticket with a shuttle pass. But if you and a mate have a spare $(US)8500 lying around and want to live it up at the festival there's a very VIP option available.

The Safari Tents pass gets you into your own fully-furnished and airconditioned tent, access to the festival's VIP areas and a golf cart to-and-from your accommodation.
