A body has been found in the Yarra River in Melbourne's east.

The discovery was made just off Barkers Road, Kew about 3pm on Tuesday.

The cause of death is yet to be determined, police say.

"We do not have any further information at the moment and will provide more when it comes to hand," a spokeswoman said.

There are reports it is a man's body.

Police are at the scene.
