TRAFFIC is almost back to normal on the Tullamarine Fwy after a high voltage powerlines have come crashing down today.

HODDLE ST SHUTDOWN TO SPARK MELBOURNE SUMMER TRAFFIC CHAOS

Two lanes in each direction between Moreland Rd and Brunswick Rd have been reopened after the morning incident.

It is still unclear what caused the line, which supplies power to the overhead billboard, to fall onto the road.

Motorists heading to the city are being diverted at Bulla Rd while outbound traffic has been diverted at Moreland Rd since the 10.50am incident.

A VicRoads spokesman said the power had been isolated and all lanes were expected to open well before the evening peak.

“Public safety is the number one priority,” he said.

He said there were significant delays for motorists with traffic already banking up at Mickleham Rd and Flemington Rd.

VicRoads is urging motorists to get off at Mount Alexander Rd and get back on at Bulla Rd to avoid the power lines and delays.

More to come.
