In our house, we have some old but great sounding Yamaha NS-1000 speakers, and I don't want to ditch them as I enter the increasingly wireless world of music.

Basically, I'd like to stream songs from my phone or tablet through them.

The Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adaptor ($249) does the job. It works with any stereo system that has optical, RCA and auxiliary inputs.

Fiddling around with cables and working out where they are meant to go can be frustrating, but with the help of a clear video tutorial on YouTube, it was easy enough to set up. All I had to do was connect the adaptor to my NAD amp and download the free Bose SoundTouch app.

The company also includes enough cables and clips so I didn't have to rummage through boxes to find something to make it all work.

I paired the adaptor to my phone and immediately started streaming my favourite Nick Cave and John Lee Hooker songs.

I can play songs from my phone or any Bluetooth or wi-fi devices through to the speakers.

The quality was great, which of course also depends on the source of the music, as I discovered when I played a dodgy clip and unfairly blamed it on the device.

This is a great little gadget. It has transformed thes old Yamahas and breathed new digital life into them. So now I don't have to get rid of a favourite system.
