Here's the Woakes wicket ...

Starc begins his first over ...

And it's right on the money, forces Root forward to defend. KP reckons there is a bit of reverse swing, given what he saw of Hazlewood's first over. Ominous.

Incredible start ...

With the second ball of the day the night watchman Woakes is gone. It brings the aggressive Moeen Ali to the crease. England still need 178 to win.

OUT!

Woakes hit it. Just a tickle picked up by snicko.

OUT!

Woakes nicks Hazelwood to Paine with the second ball of the day but he is reviewing!

Players are out on the field ...

Play moments away. New ball due in 18 overs, remember.

Joe Root the key ...

It's obvious, but he has to make a big century (150 plus you'd think) if England has any chance here.

He is the wicket Australia will be pining for. He isn't in the same class as Smith and Kholi, but he isn't far away (he is in the same class as De Villiers and Williamson).

We are in for a brilliant end to a brilliant Test match.

One for the history books ...

If England win by chasing down the 354 run target, it would be the sixth highest Test run chase EVER!

If England win they will be the second team in Test history to chase down a target after conceding a lead of 200 or more after the first innings. Wowee.

It's been a bitter match thus far ...

Here's our reporter Andrew Wu's summation of the often heated exchanges that have gone on in Adelaide.
