A MECHANICAL failure is thought to be the cause of a truck fire on the Bass Highway on Thursday afternoon.
Tasmania Police said the truck, a Kenworth Prime Mover, was destroyed after it caught fire near Sassafras, east of Devonport, about 2.30pm.
No one was injured in the fire.
Traffic was diverted to the Frankford Highway until the Bass Highway reopened at 4pm.
The truck was worth between $200,000 and $300,000, police said.
